The New Brunswick issue honours the province's rural heritage with a depiction of a covered bridge, attributed to Ronald Lambert and widely identified with the Newcastle area, an evocative tribute to the many wooden covered bridges that remain enduring landmarks of New Brunswick's countryside and its close ties to forestry and river crossings. The obverse carries the effigy of Elizabeth II by Dora de Pédery‑Hunt, accompanied by a special commemorative double date that distinguishes the entire anniversary series from regular coinage. Struck in nickel at the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg, the coin entered everyday commerce and introduced countless Canadians to the idea of collecting circulating commemoratives, helping lay the groundwork for the many themed programs that followed. For collectors, the New Brunswick design is an essential component of a complete provincial set, prized both for its charming pastoral imagery and for its place in one of the most popular and historically meaningful commemorative series in Canadian numismatics.
