50p coins: 367 coins, 1969–2026
The 50p entered circulation in October 1969 as the first seven-sided coin in British change and was reduced to its present size in 1997. The Royal Mint has used it for more commemorative designs than any other denomination, from the 1973 EEC coin onwards, which is why it is the coin people check their change for.
