The June issue, titled "From Lands Afar," pays tribute to the immigrants who crossed the ocean to build new lives in Canada. Its reverse depicts a tall sailing ship beneath a stylised map, evoking the courage of the newcomers whose arrival shaped the country's diverse cultural fabric. Like the other designs in the series, it emerged from a nationwide public design competition that invited Canadians to interpret their own history, giving the coinage an unusually personal and democratic character. The obverse carries the crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pédery-Hunt, linking the commemorative reverse to the established portraiture used during her reign. The series is widely credited with sparking a surge of popular interest in coin collecting across Canada and paving the way for the many commemorative circulating designs that followed. Its narrative theme and its place within a cohesive monthly sequence make it an appealing piece for both newcomers and seasoned numismatists who appreciate how everyday coinage can tell a national story.
