2005 Canada Elizabeth II 1 Cent Proof : présentation (texte en anglais)

It was the first effigy of the Queen created by a Canadian for the nation's coins, and her uncrowned, mature likeness reflected a more personal and modern image of the monarch. The obverse carries the legend ELIZABETH II D G REGINA, while the reverse keeps the familiar twin maple leaves on a single twig designed by George Edward Kruger Gray. That motif remains one of the most enduring and recognizable designs in Canadian numismatics. Struck in copper at the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa, these pieces display the fine detail and careful finish for which the Mint's collector production is known, bringing out the delicate veining of the leaves and the subtle modeling of the portrait. This gives the type special appeal to collectors assembling complete effigy sequences, documenting the end of the cent, or building type sets that trace the evolution of Canadian coinage during the reign of Elizabeth II.
