2000 Canada Elizabeth II 1 Cent

2000 Canada Elizabeth II 1 Cent : présentation (texte en anglais)

The obverse carries the dignified, crowned effigy of the Queen modelled by Dora de Pédery‑Hunt, the first Canadian artist to design a royal portrait for the nation's coinage. Struck at the Royal Canadian Mint facilities in Ottawa and Winnipeg, the type was produced both for everyday commerce and for collector sets, giving numismatists a range of finishes and production sources to study. Collectors value this series for its place between traditional copper alloys and the later plated steel coinage, and for the opportunity it offers to examine how planchet composition affects strike quality, surface colour and long term toning. Specialists also seek out examples with well defined leaf veins and crisp portrait detail, since the plated zinc core can make sharp, unblemished specimens a satisfying challenge to assemble into a complete and attractive set.
