1967 Canada Elizabeth II, Confederation 1 Cent : présentation (texte en anglais)

The reverse, designed by the renowned Canadian painter Alex Colville, depicts a rock dove in graceful flight with wings outstretched, a symbol of peace and the spirit of a young nation. It is accompanied by the dual dates marking the centennial in place of a single year of issue. The obverse carries the 2nd portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin, showing the monarch as a mature sovereign wearing a tiara, a likeness used on Canadian coinage during much of her reign. Struck in bronze at the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa, the coin reflects the national pride and optimism of the centennial celebrations, which also included Expo in Montreal. Collectors value the type as an essential component of the complete Confederation commemorative set, admiring Colville's modernist artistry and the coin's role as one of the few departures from the standard cent design in Canadian numismatic history. Its lasting popularity makes it a cornerstone for anyone assembling a collection of Canadian commemorative or Elizabeth II era coinage.
