2018 2 Euros Republic of Austria

2018 2 Euros Republic of Austria : présentation (texte en anglais)

**The €2 Republic of Austria** is a commemorative issue of the Austrian Mint marking the centenary of the founding of the Republic of Austria, which was proclaimed after the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy at the close of the First World War. The national side depicts the Parliament building in Vienna, the seat of Austrian democracy and a powerful symbol of the transition from imperial rule to republican government, accompanied by an inscription celebrating 100 years of the Republic. The design is framed by the 12 stars of the European Union, and the common reverse shared by all eurozone €2 pieces completes the coin. It is struck in the familiar bimetallic format, with a nickel brass clad nickel centre set within a copper nickel ring. For collectors, the type holds particular appeal as a piece of modern Austrian history in coin form, linking the nation's constitutional heritage with its place in the European monetary union. It is a natural addition to collections of Austrian coinage, eurozone commemoratives and coins celebrating democratic institutions, and its clear architectural design and meaningful theme make it attractive to specialists and newcomers alike.
