1959 Canada Elizabeth II 25 Cents

Sobre 1959 Canada Elizabeth II 25 Cents (texto en inglés)

The obverse carries the 1st portrait of Elizabeth II, a youthful laureate bust modelled by the English sculptor Mary Gillick, which depicts the young monarch without a crown and wearing a wreath in her hair in the classical tradition. It is encircled by the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA. The reverse retains Emanuel Hahn's celebrated caribou head, a design that had already become one of the most recognizable images of Canadian coinage and that ties this issue to a broader national identity rooted in the northern wilderness. Struck at the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa in .800 silver alloyed with .200 copper, the coin belongs to the final generation of Canadian silver coinage made for everyday commerce, which gives it lasting appeal both to students of Canadian monetary history and to those who value its precious metal content. For collectors, the type offers an accessible way to assemble a series spanning the opening years of Elizabeth II's long reign. Close study of the Gillick portrait rewards attention to strike quality and surface preservation, since the softly modelled relief and the fine detail of the caribou's antlers and fur can vary noticeably from piece to piece.
