Built in Nova Scotia and skippered by Captain Angus Walters, the Bluenose earned lasting fame by remaining undefeated in the International Fishermen's Trophy races against American rivals, becoming a symbol of Maritime craftsmanship, seamanship and national pride. For this commemorative issue, the Royal Canadian Mint departed from the familiar Emanuel Hahn reverse and introduced a fresh, more dynamic portrayal of the schooner under full sail, cutting through the waves with a sense of motion and depth that pays tribute to her racing legacy. The obverse carries the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, and the coin was produced at the Winnipeg facility in multi ply nickel plated steel, the mint's patented plating technology that gives the piece its bright, durable finish.
