1968 Canada Elizabeth II 1 Cent

Über 1968 Canada Elizabeth II 1 Cent (Text auf Englisch)

The portrait, created by the English sculptor Arnold Machin, replaced the earlier laureate likeness and presented a more mature monarch wearing the diamond tiara given to her as a wedding gift, a depiction that brought Canadian coins into harmony with the updated royal imagery seen across the Commonwealth. The reverse retained the elegant twin maple leaf sprig designed by George Edward Kruger Gray, a motif that had become one of the most recognizable emblems of Canadian numismatics and a symbol of national identity. Struck in an alloy of 98% copper, 0.5% tin and 1.5% zinc, the coin was produced by the Royal Canadian Mint at Ottawa and later also at its Winnipeg facility, reflecting the growth of the Mint's production capacity during this period. For collectors, the type offers an accessible yet rewarding series, with its subtle die varieties, differences in portrait detail and strikes prepared specifically for collector sets making it a favourite subject for careful study, while its blend of a modernised royal portrait and an enduring national emblem makes it a cornerstone of any collection of Canadian coinage from the reign of Elizabeth II.
