Pre-decimal coins: 605 coins, 1706–1970

Until Decimal Day on 15 February 1971 a pound was 20 shillings and a shilling was 12 pence. Farthings, halfpennies, pennies, threepences, sixpences, shillings, florins, half crowns and crowns are listed here, from the early eighteenth century to the final issues of 1970. Florin House takes its name from the florin, the two-shilling coin of 1849 that was Britain’s first step towards a decimal pound.
