About the 1999 Canada Elizabeth II July 25 Cents
The reverse designs were chosen through a public competition that invited Canadians from every province and territory to submit artwork reflecting the nation's history, culture and identity. The winning entries were adapted for coinage by the Mint's engravers, giving the series a grassroots character rarely seen in modern circulating coinage. The July design centres on themes of Canadian nationhood and the diverse people who built the country, a fitting subject for the month that marks Canada Day. The obverse carries the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pédery-Hunt, the portrait in use on Canadian coinage at the time.
