About the 2018 Canada Elizabeth II, magnetic with RCM logo 5 Cents

E. Kruger Gray, a motif that has served as one of Canada's most enduring national emblems on its coinage. Blunt's portrait shows the monarch without a crown and gives the obverse a modern, approachable character. The defining feature of the type is the small stylised logo of the Royal Canadian Mint placed on the reverse, which replaced the earlier "P" mark used to identify plated steel coins and became the standard indicator of the Mint's patented plating technology. Struck at both the Ottawa and Winnipeg facilities, these coins have a steel core with copper and nickel plating, which makes them magnetic, unlike the solid nickel and cupronickel pieces of earlier generations. This composition reflects the Mint's drive to control production costs while preserving the coin's appearance and durability. For collectors, the type is a rewarding area of study because it spans a substantial portion of the late Elizabethan era, allowing for complete sets built across multiple finishes and annual collector products. The type also offers interesting opportunities to examine strike quality, plating characteristics and die varieties, making it an essential component of any comprehensive collection of modern Canadian coinage.
