2005 Canada Elizabeth II 5 Cents BU (magnetic)

About the 2005 Canada Elizabeth II 5 Cents BU (magnetic)

The effigy was created by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt and depicts the monarch without a crown, a notable departure from earlier Canadian royal portraits. The obverse pairs this mature, uncrowned likeness with the legend ELIZABETH II D G REGINA. The reverse retains the beloved beaver perched on a rock beside a pond, originally designed by G.E. Struck in nickel plated steel rather than solid nickel, these coins are magnetic, reflecting the Royal Canadian Mint's shift toward plated compositions to control rising metal costs while preserving the familiar appearance of the coin. Production took place at both the Ottawa and Winnipeg facilities. Collectors often seek this type for the transition it represents from the previous royal effigy, the variations in mint markings associated with the plating process, and the opportunity to assemble complete sets across the different finishes issued for this design.
