1986 Canada Elizabeth II modified 10 Cents

About the 1986 Canada Elizabeth II modified 10 Cents

The obverse shows the Queen wearing a tiara, its proportions subtly adjusted from the earlier Machin rendition, and these differences reward careful study and side by side comparison of type sets. The reverse carries Emanuel Hahn's enduring image of the Bluenose, the famed Nova Scotia fishing and racing schooner that became a symbol of Canadian seafaring skill and maritime pride, shown under full sail on the open sea. Struck in nickel at the Royal Canadian Mint facility in Winnipeg, the coin reflects the shift of Canadian coin production toward this modern western Manitoba plant and the practical choice of a durable, magnetic metal suited to heavy everyday use. For collectors, the type offers an accessible yet rewarding focus. Attentive specialists examine portrait details, strike quality and surface preservation, and the coin fits naturally into date runs, portrait transition studies and broader collections devoted to Canadian marine and national imagery during the reign of Elizabeth II.
