This is the 1982 BU issue with a mintage of 106,800. In 1982, 11 years after Decimalisation Day on 15th February 1971, the word 'NEW' was removed from the denomination on the reverse, so the legend now reads 'TWO PENCE'. This type was not struck for circulation and can only be found in Royal Mint annual Brilliant Uncirculated & Proof sets. C2A - Error reverse a number of 2 pence coins were struck in 1983 with the incorrect reverse die (NEW PENCE) as opposed to TWO PENCE. Reports suggest that the error coins or 'mules' were contained in some Brilliant Uncirculated sets packed by the Royal Mint for Heinz and Martini issued in 1983. See separate listing. (former Spink ref. 4236)
